BartowFord_1The Drive One 4UR School program was developed by Ford Motor Company as a fun, engaging way to help high schools raise money to support their sports and extracurricular activities. Kristie Carter, Commercial/Fleet Accounts and Tina Ford, Inventory Manager for Bartow Ford, donate their personal time for the 4th year in a row, to sponsor the Drive One 4UR School program for Bartow High School Cheerleaders.BartowFord_2

Held at the Bartow Wal-Mart, Friday 11/19 and Saturday 11/20, the event allowed customers to test drive one of 13 new 2011 Ford vehicles. After taking a test drive in the vehicle of their choice, the customer filled out a survey rating the vehicle they drove. For every test drive, Ford donated $20. Drivers were required to be 18 yrs old and only one per household. 313 test drives supported the maximum Ford pays per school event, $6,000.

Lori Jolliff, varsity coach of the Inaugural State Champions, adds, “The Bartow cheerleading program is very appreciative with the ongoing support that we receive from Drive One 4UR School and Bartow Ford. Kristy and Tina, along with the other employees, work very diligently during the weekend to make sure that we have a very successful weekend. Drive One 4UR School has allowed our team to compete at the state and national level. We are currently 5th in the State and 10th in the nation and this is possible because of Drive One 4UR School. The funds raised were applied to the $15,000 that we spent on competition fees. We are truly indebted to the hard work, love, and support that we receive from Bartow Ford. Thank you once again for your ongoing support of Bartow Cheer.”

BartowFord_3Coach Jolliff, Gail Adams junior varsity coach and Mr. Prichard, principal of Bartow High organized a brief gathering at Bartow High for photos and acceptance of the $6,000.00. The check was presented by Benny Robles Sr, President/Chairman of Bartow Ford Co.

During the fall 2009 session of Ford Motor Company’s Drive One 4 UR School program, 25 high schools were engaged to participate in a student video contest for the chance to increase Ford’s donation to their respective booster club(s). Eleven participants accepted the challenge, and were tasked with creating original content that would capture the spirit of their event along with highlighting Ford’s commitment to their local communities.

Two video were selected as winners, earning their schools a match of the donation of funds raised at their Drive One 4 UR School event. Both winning videos can be viewed on this page.

Just days before Christmas, smiles and tears were visible on the faces of five Polk County families. On December 22, Auto Angels, a group comprised of area automotive businesses, (primarily dealers, garages, and body shops) gave away five pre-owned vehicles.

Arriving by Limo to Victory Church in Lakeland, the families were welcomed by a group of supporters, as well as the many men and women who made Auto Angels possible.

“You can talk about Christmas around the world, but it doesn’t get any more real than this,” Rev. Wayne Blackburn of Victory Church said to Wednesday’s crowd during his introduction.”I can tell you that Lakeland, Florida and Polk County can really put it on with the spirit of Christmas.”

On June 19, 1865, news of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the proclamation had been issued.  The celebration of June 19 became known as Juneteenth, and was officially named a Texas state holiday 1980.  The celebration soon spread to many other southern states, including Florida.  The Bartow Community comes together each year to celebrate friends and family, and remember the historical day.

The 2010 Juneteenth celebration was held in downtown Bartow June 18-20, complete with music, food, a classic car show, a talent show, and a bounce house and water slide for the kids.  Steve Hendrix and Aundrae McGee of Bartow Ford were on hand with silly bands and mardi gras beads.
